Notes:At the time of the September 10, 1850 federal census Mathias was
1 year old and living with his parents and 3 siblings in the Township
of Westphalia, Clinton County MI. His father was working as a farmer
on a farm valued at $300. His father said he was born in Baden and
his wife was born in Prussia, but Mathias and his 3 siblings all were
born in Michigan.
On June 9, 1870 Mathias was 21 years old and working on his parents'
farm in St. George, Benton County, MN along with three brothers.
Two other siblings lived with them and their parents on the family

At the time of the 1885 Minnesota state census, Mathias was 33 years
old and living with his wife Mary, their three children, and his brothers
George and Michael Adelman plus Michael's wife Frunica and their two
children in St. George Township, Benton County, MN. He stated that
his father was of foreign birth but his mother was born in the United
States.
At the time of the July 5, 1895 Minnesota state census, Mathias was
43 years old and living with his wife Mary and their six children in
St. George township. He stated that he was born in Michigan and
that both his parents were of foreign birth. He said he had been living
in the state of Minnesota for 28 years, and had been a resident of this
enumeration district for 25 of those years. He had been working as a
farmer during the year ending 1895 for the last 12 months.
At the time of the April 27, 1910 federal census, Matt was 59 years old
and living with his wife Mary, their four children and a boarder, Lillian Mohan
(age 19), a school teacher at the public school, on the family farm in St. George
Twp., Benton Co., MN. Matt stated he was born in Michigan of German
parents. He and Mary had been married 30 years.
