In the April 4, 1930 federal census, Joseph was 62 years old and living with his wife Annie M. and five of his children (with the exception of second son John) at 323 Roxborough Avenue in Roxborough, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Paul Stimmler's comments on his grandfather: "James Stimmler 1927-1985 . . . our first cousin Jim and son of our uncle . . . ran the family fuel oil business, 'Stimmler Oil,' which was a successor to our grandfather Joseph's steam-fitting, tin roofing, gas line installation, and lumbing and heating business from which Joseph retired in 1932. The business was sold by Jim's widow around 2 or 3 years ago to Davis Oil who have retained the Stimmler Oil name on the delivery trucks."
