Helen Winkelman was born May 10, 1924, in St. Cloud, Minn., to John M.
and Frances (Kampa) Jurek.
In the April 21, 1930 census, Helen was 5 years old and living with her parents, 11 siblings and her 88-year-old paternal grandmother, Julia. The family did not own a radio. Helen married Donald Winkelman on Sept. 22, 1942, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Duelm. She had lived all of her life in St. George Township, rural Benton County. She was helpful in the early years of Winkelman Enterprises and also worked at her daughter's Bridal Outlet Store in St. Cloud for several years. Helen was active in the Duelm 4-H; Foley Lioness Club; the Elks Club; enjoyed playing cards and was a great cook. She loved the spring time and watching and feeding birds. She traveled with Donald and liked playing cards and going to the casino. Helen was especially fond of her dog, "Buck." She was a member of the St. Lawrence Christian Mothers and a life member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. |
