| Notes: | Ellsworth was a twin and was set aside at birth when they thought he was stillborn. His sister began working with him and revived him to everyone's surprise. |
When Edward, Ellsworth's father, left home Ellsworth assumed the task of working to support his mother and younger sisters. He paid off the farm for his mother, then had to pay it off again when she sold it to him later. Ellsworth was about 5' 6" tall and was always busy. He was very adept at repairing and adjusting the farm machinery. Neighbors were always having him adjust their grain and corn binders to tie the bundles properly. He dearly loved his grandchildren and would meet them at the car and carry in as many as he could carry! He had a good sense of humor and had nicknames for everyone. At the time of the April 16, 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Ellsworth was 37 years old and living with his wife Alvina and their four children on a rented farm in Haven Township, Sherburne County, Minnesota. He was working as a farmer in general farming. He stated that he was married when he was 33 and Alvina was 21 years old. The family owned a radio [Source: 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Haven Township, Sherburn County, Minnesota, Roll: T626-1129; E.D. 11; Page: 3B]. At the time of his sister Lucy's death in December 1949, Ellsworth was living in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. |
