At the time of the Apr. 23, 1910 U.S. federal census, Ambrose was 10 years old and living with his parents and five siblings in Mayhew Lake, Benton, Minnesota. His 38-year-old father John was working as a farmer in general farming. In 1918 when he registered for the WWI draft, Ambrose was 18 years old and living at RFD #2 in Sauk Rapids, Benton, Minnesota. He was working in farming for his father. He was of average height and medium build, with dark grey eyes and light hair. At the time of the Jan. 23, 1920 U.S. federal census, Ambrose was 19 years old and living with his 47-year-old widowed father John, three brothers and two younger sisters on their mortgaged farm in Dist. 90, St. George, Benton, Minnesota. A cousin on their mother's side, Clara Imholte, helped with chores around the house. His father was a farmer engaged in general farming, and Ambrose and his brothers Joseph and James were all laborers on the home farm. At the time of the 1930 U.S. federal census, Ambrose was 29 years old and living on a farm in Dist. 15, St. George, Benton, Minnesota with his widowed father John (age 57), brother Joseph H. (age 28), sister-in-law Rose (age 27), and their five children ranging in age from one to seven years old. He, his brother and his father were all farmers engaged in general farming. At the time of the Apr. 18, 1940 U.S. federal census, Ambrose was 39 years old, single, and lodging on a farm in Minden Township, Benton, Minnesota with 35-year-old Helen Moline, her 70-year-old mother Mary Kling, Mary's unmarried 46-year-old uncle Enoch Jurek, and William Cota, a 45-year-old single farmer from Iowa. Everyone had ben living together in the same house back in April of 1935, and all with the exception of Mary Kling were occupied as farmers or farm helpers. Ambrose married Mrs. Beatrice Mae Vukman on June 6, 1956 when he was 56 and she was 52 years old. She was the divorced daughter of William Henry Clark; her mother's maiden name was Beatrice Mary Ellen Welch. Justice of the Peace Lester Jessen officiated, and Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Hay were witnesses. Ambrose and Beatrice were living at 5006 13th Ave S in Seattle, Washington in 1958. He was working as a warehouseman at A M Castle & Company. Ambrose died in November 1965 in Seattle, King, Washington at the age of 65. |
