"William Balder, of Osakis died suddenly
of a stroke Sunday afternoon at 5:30 in a car while on a hunting expedition. He has been ailing for some time.
"Mr. Balder, 60 years old, was
manager of the telephone exchange in Osakis and also district manager for Northern States Power company. He lived formerly in
St. Cloud, his father at one time of the Balder Brewery. He married Dora Flanigan of Minden, who survives with three
children, Mrs. Dale Ladenia, John and Dorothy Balder of Osakis; Arthur Zertler of Marshfield, Wis., who died
a year ago was a half brother. There is another brother, Louis Balder, in Minot, N.D.
"Mr. Balder served in Company M 13th Minnesota,
in the Spanish American War. The funeral was held at one o'clock Wednesday in the Balder residence in Osakis and the body was
brought to St. Patrick cemetery in Minden for burial. Spanish American war veterans took part in the services.
"Honorary pallbearers, all members of Company M, are Joseph Casper,
Julius Hendrickson, William Donken and J. W. Peterson of St. Cloud; William Latzka of Melrose and Paul Huberty
of Albany. Active pallbearers were Edward Kruse, Clyde Millard and Mr. Mattson of Osakis, Joseph Kraker
of Alexandria, Edward Brick, Thomas W. Thomas, W. Tolman and Lloyd Pelley of St. Cloud."
