"PEORIA, Ariz. -- Richard B. Qvale,
90, formerly of Willmar and Minneapolis, died Nov. 4 in Peoria, Ariz.
"Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
"Arrangements are with Best Funeral Services in Peoria (623-486-1955).
"He was born Dec. 8, 1910, in Willmar to Sigurdt and Mayme (Nockles) Qvale.
He was a 1931 graduate of University of Minnesota with a degree in mining engineering. He was employed as an engineer by
radio station WCFL in Chicago.
"On March 13, 1939, he married Alice (Stickney) Anderson.
During World War II he was involved in aeronautical electronics and worked on the autopilot for the B-17. After the war he
supervised a crew of 200 workers at the Nevada test site. Alice died in 1967.
"On Dec. 21, 1968, he married Helen (Close) Bussell in Excelsior.
They lived in Sun City, Ariz.
"He was president of Sun City Chapter of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association
in 1968 and 1977, and won an award for coordinating the building of the Sun City Bell Rec Center.
"He is survived by his wife Helen; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
"He was preceded in death by his first wife Alice
and step-daughter Diane Stimler."
