At the time of the January 13, 1920 U.S. Federal Census, Mary Ellen was 31 years
old and living with her husband John A. and their three children in a rental on Central Avenue in Fairview,
Richland County, Montana. John was working as an engineer for the gas engine [Source: 1920 U.S. Census, Roll T625-974, p. 1A, E.D. 180]. At the time of the April 7, 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Mary Ellen was 41 years old and living with her husband John A. and their six children. They owned their own home valued at $2,500 in Melrose, Stearns County, Minnesota. The family owned a radio. John stated he was married when he was 34 and Mary Ellen was 22 years old.
