In the April 2, 1930 U.S. federal census, Kathleen was 7 years old and living with her parents
and three siblings in their home in St. George Township, Benton County, Minnesota. The family did not
own a radio.
Kathleen graduated from Foley High School in 1940 and attended St. Cloud Teachers College graduating in 1941. She worked at Hall’s Mercantile until 1942. When her mother died in 1942 she quit working to help her dad raise her brothers and sisters. In September of 1942 she started teaching and taught in District 20 for two years and also in District 26 for two years. In 1943 she attended summer school to further her education. Kathleen married Peter Winkelman on July 1, 1944 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Duelm. She enjoyed watching her husband play baseball and also watched her sons play many, many softball games. She loved the farm life and took pride in raising her kids on the family dairy farm. Kathleen was member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the St. Lawrence Christian Mothers. Kathleen died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital. She was 85 years old. |
