At the time of the June 28, 1895 Minnesota state census, Joe was 14 years old and living with his parents and nine siblings in Palmer Township, Sherburne, Minnesota. His father Frank was working as a farmer. At the time of the June 21, 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Joe was 19 years old and living with his parents and nine siblings on the family farm in Palmer, Sherburn, Minnesota. Both he and his 17-year-old brother John were working as farm laborers. Three other siblings attended school while the five youngest, ranging in age from 8 to 2, stayed at home with mother Mary. On Sept. 12, 1917 at the time of his WWI Draft Registration, Joe was 37 years old and living with his wife Gertie and their family on Rt. 6, St. Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota. He stated he was born on May 14, 1881 and was working as a farmer in Palmer, Sherburne, Minnesota. He was short, of medium build, and had brown eyes and dark hair. At the time of the Apr. 10, 1930 U. S. Federal Census, Joseph was 47 years old and living with his wife Gertrude and their two children in Brook Park Village District 9, Pine, Minnesota. He was working as a section foreman. He and Gertrude were married when he was 23 and she was 24 years old. Joe died from complications of cancer on March 11, 1966 in Eau Claire, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was 84 years old. |
