| Notes: |
In the 1885 Minnesota census John was living in Clear Lake
Township with his parents and siblings. John was taken out of school during the harvest or whatever and whenever he was needed on the farm in Clear Lake, and while all his sisters were getting an education he never got past the 4th grade. His father was rather hard on him which some might find unusual as he was the only boy in the family. John was very fond of his mother and was devastated when she died. At the time of the January 13, 1920 U.S. Federal Census, John was 43 years old and living with his wife Mary E. and their three children in a rental on Central Avenue in Fairview, Richland County, Montana. John was working as an engineer for the gas engine [Source: 1920 U.S. Census, Roll T625-974, p. 1A, E.D. 180]. At the time of the April 7, 1930 U.S. Federal Census, John was 53 years old and living with wife Mary Ellen and their six children. They owned their own home valued at $2,500 in Melrose, Stearns County, Minnesota. The family owned a radio. John stated he was married when he was 34 and Mary Ellen was 22 years old. He was working as a foreman on the road. [Source: 1930 U.S. Census, Roll T626-1130; p. 6B; E.D. 37] John's last residence was in California. He died on December 26, 1964 in Alameda County, California. |
