At the time of the June 8, 1880 federal census, Valentine was 11 years old and living with his parents and eight siblings on the family farm in Dublin, Swift, Minnesota. He was attending school. His father Joseph "[s]erved as a soldier in Federal army during rebellion." Valentine married Carolyn Elizabeth Jordan in 1892 when he was 23 and she was 17 years old. At the time of the June 20, 1895 Minnesota state census, Valentine G. was 25 years old and living with his wife Carrie E. and their two young children in Red Wing, Goodhue, Minnesota. He was working as a plumber. At the time of the June 1, 1900 U.S. federal census, Val was 31 years old and working as a partner with his brother John farming in Hayes Township, Swift, Minnesota. At the time of the May 3, 1910 U.S. federal census, Val G. was 42 years old and living with his wife Carrie and their eight children in Dublin, Swift, Minnesota. He was working as a farmer in general farming. He and Carrie had been married for 19 years, and she was the mother of eight children, all of whom were still living. At the time of the June 30, 1920 U.S. federal census, V. G. was 50 years old and living with his wife Carolyn E. and their eight children in Dublin, Swift, Minnesota. He was working as a farmer in general farming. Valentine died in Hennepin County, Minnesota on May 30, 1940. He was 71 years old. |
