At the time of the June 8, 1870 U.S. Federal census, Sarah was 37 years old and living with her 49-year-old husband John, their two children Mary (age 11) and Frank (age 6), Jane Dinger (age 20 and a domestic servant) and Henry Norton (age 19 and working on the farm) in Schoolcraft, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Sarah was keeping house and husband John was a flour dealer. The value of his real estate was $11,000 and the value of his personal estate was $8,000. Daughter Mary had attended school within the last year. At the time of the June 11, 1880 U.S. Federal census, Sarah A. was 47 years old, keeping house and living with her 59-year-old husband John and their four children ranging in age from 3 years to 21 years old in Schoolcraft, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her husband was working as a grain dealer, and their son Frank was at school. Twenty-one-year-old daughter Mollie was at home, as presumably were her two younger sisters, Bessie (age 6) and Sarah A. (age 3). At the time of the 1894 Michigan state census, Sarah was 61 years old and living with 74-year-old husband John and their 17-year-old daughter, Sarah A., in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. At the time of the June 12, 1900 U.S. Federal census, Sarah was 67 years old and living with her 79-year-old husband John and their two daughters, Bessie (age 26) and Alice (age 23) in Schoolcraft, Kalamazoo, Michigan. She and her husband had been married for 46 years and she was the mother of four children, all of whom were still living. John was working as a grain dealer, and daughter Alice was working as a stenographer. Sarah A. Earl died in Schoolcraft Twsp., Kalamazoo, Michigan of suspected tuberculosis on January 8, 1901 at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 17 days old. She had not been in good health for years. |
