Notes: The family story goes that one day in Norway in 1849, three sisters from Bolshus married three Qvale brothers.
That three sisters married three brothers is true, but the records' details do not indicate that all married on the same day or even in the same year.

Gurine's husband owned a fishing business in Norway and went down with one of his ships in May of 1875. She and her five children immigrated to the United States in October of 1878.

At the time of the May 1, 1885 Minnesota State Census, O.G. Qvale was 54 years old and living with her son G.E. and daughter Bertha Qvale in Willmar, Kandiyohi, Minnesota [1885 Minnesota State Census, Roll MNSC-31, line 30]. In the June 1, 1895 census, Gurine was 63 years old and living with sons Arnold and Berg in the Village of Willmar, MN. The 1900 census found her a 68-year-old widow living with son Gauthe and his wife, Jennie J. in Willmar, MN; her younger son Sigurdt and his wife Mayme lived next door. In the June 22, 1905 Minnesota state census she was 73 years old, with the listed occupation of housekeeper, still living with her son Gauthe and his family, and next door to her son S.B. and his wife Mayme on Litchfield Ave. in Willmar, MN. In the April 20, 1910 census, Gurine was 78 years old and living with her son Gauthe and his family in the same house on Litchfield Ave. E. in Willmar. The census stated that she had her own income.

Gurine died February 6, 1913 at her son Emil's home and originally was buried in Calvery Cemetery in Willmar. She would have been 81 years old had she lived another nine days. Due to her sons' later disagreement with that cemetery, her body was exhumed and reinterred in a crypt at the Gauthe Qvale family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Willmar, Kandiyohi, Minnesota.
