At the time of the Apr. 24, 1940 U.S. Federal Census, Norbert was 14 years old and living with his parents and two siblings in the family home valued at $1,500 in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota. His father owned his own garage.

Norbert served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from September 20, 1950 to September 8, 1952.
 
Norbert died on July 5, 2004 at the Foley Nursing Center in Foley, Benton County, Minnesota. His funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. July 8, 2004 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Duelm, the town of his birth. He was buried at Section 1, Site 621 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery located at 15550 Hwy. 115, Little Falls, Minnesota. He was 78 years old.
