WHITPAIN — A Philadelphia man died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash Thursday.

Edward Stimmler Jr., 37, of Sumac Street, was riding a motorcycle on Penllyn Blue Bell Pike around 5:39 p.m., when he collided with a car turning onto the road from a driveway, according to a Whitpain Police Department report.

Preliminary reported revealed Stimmler’s BMW motorcycle was traveling south on Penllyn Blue Bell Pike, and as he approached the area of Hoover Road, a Ford Fusion driven by 35-year-old Dolores Howlett, of the 1100 block of Penllyn Blue Bell Pike, exited a driveway to turn south on the roadway and the motorcycle side-swiped her car and hit a split-rail fence.

Stimmler was treated at the scene by Second Alarmers ambulance then flown to Abington Memorial Hospital by JeffStat helicopter. He later died of his injuries at the hospital.

The roadway was closed for more than 3 hours between Skippack Pike and Stenton Avenue. The investigation is continuing.
