Obituary of
Dr. Mary McMillen Stimmler

Mary McMillen Stimmler, Keck School physician, 49

Mary McMillen Stimmler, associate professor of clinical medicine and rheumatology of the Keck School of Medicine of USC, died Sept. 21 in Whittier. She was 49.
Stimmler served as deputy executive director and medical director of Ambulatory Care Services at LAC+USC Medical Center.
Born in Wisconsin, she first came to USC on a rheumatology fellowship in 1984. She had been at USC ever since and was twice named to the list of The Nation's Best Doctors.
"She had a willingness to give for those who didn't have other means for medical care a devotion to taking care of the indigent and the desire to advance science in the field of rheumatology," said her former husband, William Stimmler.
Ron Kaufman, senior associate dean for administration at the Keck School, said Stimmler's strength lay in her high ethical standards and professionalism.
"When I appointed her to be director of managed care at LAC+USC, she was able to manifest her strong dedication to her patients by providing care when they needed it and of the quality they deserved," he said.
Stimmler was also a member of LAC+USC CARES program, which benefits the patients of the LAC+USC Healthcare Network.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to: "Mary Stimmler, M.D. Fund," CARES, LAC+USC Medical Center Auxiliary, Room 1900, 1200 N. State St., Los Angeles, CA 90033.
