Notes: At the time of the Apr. 20, 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Dorothy was 7 years old and living with her parents and older sister Helen
  in Philadelphia Ward 21, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her father was working as a carpenter for a contractor.

At the time of the Jan. 9, 1920 U.S. federal census, Dorothy was 17 years old and living with her parents and sister Helen at 328 Market Street in Manayunk, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both she and her sister were working as stenographers in the fiber trade. Her father was working as a carpenter at the mill.
 
At the time of the Apr. 4, 1930 U.S. federal census, Dorothy was 26 years old and living with her parents in their own home valued at $3,200 located at 328 Kingsley Street in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was working as a stenographer at a hardware store. Her father was working as a tradesman in carpentry. The family owned a radio.
 
Dorothy married Walter Brendan Chipley in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 20, 1930 when she was 27 and Walter was 20 years old.
 
The young family was living at 2209 Canal St. in the 31st Ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Feb. 12 1934 when infant Regina was born and expired ten minutes later due to complications from an excess of amniotic fluid.
 
At the time of the April 11, 1940 U.S. Federal Census, Dorothea R. stated she was 31 years old and living at 3944 Sharp St. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her 30-year-old husband Walter Chipley and sons Walter (age 9) and Donald (age 4). The family had been living in the same place on Apr. 1, 1935. She said she had graduated from high school, her husband had completed his education through the 8th grade and her son Walter Jr. through the 3rd grade. Husband Walter was working privately as a sprayer in a Bug Mill for 28 weeks in 1939. He earned $700 and had income from other sources as well.
 
Her father died in 1946 when she was 44 years old and her mother died four years later in 1950 when Dorothy was 48. On Feb. 15, 1973 her husband Walter passed away in York, York, Pennsylvania when Dorothy was 70.

In 1974 Dorothea R. Chipley was a widow living at 421 Shurs Lane in Philadelphia, PA. Her elder sister Helen died in Philadelphia on Feb. 10, 1989 when Dorothy was 86 years old.
 
Dorothy died the following year on Sept. 17, 1990 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the age of 88. Her son Walter Jr. moved into the Shurs Lane residence after her death.
