In the 1881 Canadian Census, Herbert was
listed as being 10 years old and living with his parents and 6 siblings in Bruce Mines, Algoma, Ontario Province,
Canada [NA File No. C-13282, Dist. 182, Subdistrict R, p. 92, household #6]. Herbert immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1891. He became a naturalized citizen in 1900. At the time of the June 5, 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Herbert was 29 years old and living with his wife Adelaide in a house in Fisher Twp., Polk County, Minnesota. His occupation was that of a physician. He stated that he and Adelaide had been married 1 year. Herbert said that he was born in English-speaking Canada as was his father but his mother was born in England. At the time of the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Herbert was 39 years old and living with his wife Adelaide and their daughter Katherine at 231 Washington Ave., Crookston, Polk, Minnesota. At the time of the Jan. 6, 1920 U.S. Federal Census, Herbert was 48 years old and living with his wife Adlaide L. and their daughters Catherine A. and Jane at 231 Washington Ave., Crookston, Polk, Minnesota. He was working as a doctor [Source: 1920 U.S. Census, City of Crookston, Polk, Minnesota FHL #1820850, E.D. 196, Sheet #5A, p. 161]. At the time of the April 1930 U.S. Federal Census Herbert was 58 years old and living with his wife and their daughter Jane in their own home valued at $5,000 in the City of Crookston, Polk County, Minnesota. The family owned a radio. He was working as a physician in general practice. Herbert stated that he and Adelaide were married when he was 30 and she was 25 years old. Herbert died July 3, 1949 at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota of arteriosclerotic heart disease. He was buried on July 5, 1949 at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, Polk County, Minnesota. He was 79 years old. |
