At the time of the Aug. 10, 1870 U.S. Federal census, Charity H. was 35 years old and living with her 45-year-old husband "JJ," their son Lucius K. (age 8), Charles Tracy (age 19 and a farm laborer), Dan Pierce (age 20 and also a farm laborer), and Sarah Tracy (age 18 and a domestic servant) in Antwerp Township, Van Buren, Michigan. Her husband was a State Rep. Son Lucius had attended school within the last year. Charity's father-in-law Joseph (age 80) and mother-in-law Mary Woodman (age 60) lived next door on a farm valued at $8,000. At the time of the June 14, 1880 U.S. Federal census, Harty H. was 45 years old, keeping house and living with her 55-year-old husband Jonathan, their 18-year-old son Lucius K., Floyd Bishop (age 26 and working on the farm), his wife Clara (age 24 and keeping house), William Shelters (age 21 and working on the farm), and Star Tibits (age 21 and working on the farm) in Antwerp, Van Buren, Michigan. Both her husband and their son were farmers, although Lucius had attended school within the census year. Harty Woodman died in Paw Paw, Van Buren, Michigan on November 4, 1894 at the age of 60. She was buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Paw Paw. |
