At the time of the June 7, 1900 U.S. federal census, Loretta was 1 year old and living
with her parents and three siblings in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota. Her father was working as a farmer and
her three siblings were all attending school.
At the time of the June 3, 1905 Minnesota state census, Loretta was 6 years old and living with her parents and five siblings in St. George, Benton, Minnesota. Her elder brothers Louis and Clarence were working as farm laborers with their father on the family farm. At the time of the May 2, 1910 U.S. federal census, Loretta was ten years old and living with her mother, six siblings and a niece, Anna Fisher (age 1 year, 1 month) on the home farm in St. George, Benton, Minnesota. She was attending school at the time. Loretta and Henry Winkelman were married on May 9, 1916 at St. Lawrence Parish Church in Duelm, Benton, Minnesota. She was 17 and Henry was 24 years old. As of June 5, 1918, Loretta, Henry and their baby son Vernon were living on Rt. 2, Sauk Rapids, Benton, Minnesota. Henry was working as a rented farmer in Minden. At the time of the January 18, 1920 U.S. federal census, Loretta was 20 years old and living with her husband Henry and their two little boys in St. George, Benton, Minnesota. Henry was working as a tenant farmer. At the time of the April 18, 1930 U.S. federal census, Loretta was 31 years old and living with her husband Henry and their four children in Collegeville, Stearns, Minnesota. Henry was working as a janitor at the University. They rented a home for $20 a month and did not have a radio. Husband Henry died on July 2, 1975 in Sherburne County, Minnesota at the age of 83. Loretta followed him in death on September 25, 1988 in St. Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota. She was 89 years old. (Marge Randall's memories of Loretta Winkleman): "One time when I was back home visiting my folks in the early 70's Mom and I went over to visit Loretta Winkleman (Aunt Annie's daughter). She had made pickles and sent some home with us. Very good. She was a nice lady - she must have been my Mom's age or probably older ...." |
