Notes: Bertha Lillian Sheffield was born on May 19, 1890, in St Paul, Minnesota, to Adele Esther Fiero, age 21, and Charles Anthony Sheffield, age 35. She was the eldest
  of what would be their three children, and their only daughter.

When she was 5 years old Bertha Lillian Sheffield was recorded as living with her parents in Minneapolis Ward 7, Hennepin, Minnesota, on July 3, 1895. Her father's occupation was listed as "Time Keeper." Twenty days later on July 23, her brother Ernest Franklin was born. Five years later her brother Edwin T. was born in May 1900 in Minnesota when Bertha Lillian was 10 years old. The U.S. Federal Census recorded Bertha Lillian, her parents and her two brothers as living at 722 Huron Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as of June 13, 1900. Her father Charles A. was working as a timekeeper at Flor Mch. He and her mother had been married for 12 years. Bertha's maternal grandmother, Charlotte Fiero, a widow aged 71, was living with the family. Bertha was attending school at the time.

Bertha Lillian Sheffield was 19 years old and living with her parents and brothers in Crystal Lake Township, Hennepin, Minnesota, on April 28, 1910 at the time of the U.S. Federal Census. Her father was working as a market gardener. Bertha was working as a teacher at a school.

By 1913 she was living in Lincoln, Nebraska while in her junior year of study at Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she was a class officer. By that time she already has met her future husband, Robert Fawell, whom she married in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 1, 1915, when she was 25 and he was 26 years old.

Their daughter Anne "Annie" Adelle was born on June 27, 1916, in Hennepin, Minnesota, but sadly died in 1916 when she was less than a year of age.

Second daughter Dorothy Jean was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 30, 1918.

Bertha, Robert and Dorothy were living in Centerville, South Dakota, at the time of the U.S. Federal Census on January 12, 1920. Daughter Robin Ruth was born on November 26, 1920, in Parker, South Dakota.

Daughter June Sheffield was born on June 15, 1923, in Vermillion, South Dakota. Robert and Bertha's fifth child, son Dean Edward, was born on June 16, 1928, in Hurley, South Dakota.

Bertha, Robert and their family were listed as living in Hurley, South Dakota, on April 25, 1930 at the time of the U.S. Federal Census. However, the family was living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as of April 1, 1935.

Bertha's husband Robert passed away on March 5, 1937, in Minneapolis at the age of 47. They had been married 21 years. Then a year later her father Charles Anthony passed away at the age of 83.

Bertha was living without her children at 1523 SE 6th in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 15, 1940 at the time of the U.S. Federal Census. She was working as a Retail Floral Assistant.

On January 24, 1944, her mother Adele Esther Sheffield passed away in Hennepin, Minnesota, at the age of 75 when Bertha was 53 years old.

Bertha lived at 517 Walnut in Minneapolis in 1950 and was listed as living at the same address in 1952.

When she was 60 years old her youngest child, son Dean Edward, passed away on May 18, 1951 at the age of 22.

Bertha Fawell died on September 20, 1962, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, when she was 72 years old. She was buried next to her husband and son at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota.
