Dearest Frances,

It's just two weeks tonite since we got the valentine box from you so it's about time I'm writing. I was awfully glad to get the dress - I pressed it right away and wore it to a card party being given that night. It surely seemed my lucky day, for not only did I get the dress from you but I managed to win the attendance prize at the party that nite. It was an indian blanket I'm treasuring for my "hopeless chest," as Mama Redican phrased it, very publicly!
I'm enjoying my work at the library a lot and I'm already planing the summer clothes I hope to get with the pennies I'm hoarding.
Gene is out at Griffith's again after an altercation with dad last week and the once-too-oft repeated invitation to "get out," he went and asked for the job and they took him in. I hated so to see him go as it very likely means he's on his own now for good and he's so young to have to shoulder the responsibility for his own living. He agreed to work for nothing but his board until after this week - then he'll get two dollars a week in addition and more, of course, when spring work starts. This week, however, the basket-ball tournament is being held at Zumbrota for three days and that will mean his missing night chores etc., thus the agreement.
Dot was sick for two weeks and a half the first part of this month. She had an
