school year was the Homecoming Dance after the Wayzata-Chaska football game.
The dance was held in the Wayzata High School gym after a rather one-sided game
in which Wayzata routed Chaska 35-6. The decorating committee outdid themselves
as they introduced a new type of decoration. A ball coated with pieces of
broken mirror was suspended from the ceiling and was turned slowly while red
and blue spots were directed on it. The effect was beautiful and drew many oh's
and ah's from the dancers.
The queens for the Homecoming
events were Eleanor Eckstrom of the freshman class, Susan Nelson of the
sophmore class, and Pat Stiles of the junior class. The four candidates for
queen from the senior class were Geraldine "Punky" Helgerson, Anne Williams,
Diane Anderson, and Peggy Reed,
who was voted Homecoming Queen for 1949.
As Peggy mounted the stairs and
was crowned by Pat Anderson, the 1948 Homecoming Queen, flash bulbs exploded
and applause arose from the admiring students.
