In the April 21, 1930 census, Roy was 14 years old, attending school and living with his parents, 11 siblings and his 88-year-old paternal grand- mother, Julia. He worked as a laborer on their family farm in Palmer Township. The family did not own a radio. Roy married Irene Smelter on Nov. 10, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morrill, Morrison, Minnesota. He was 26 years old. Roy worked at Franklin Manufacturing for many years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and worked in the CCC Camps after returning from the service. Roy was an avid card player; horseshoe player; liked to deer hunt; cut wood with his children and grandchildren and drive his 4 wheeler. He was a member of Duelm Knight's of Columbus, Foley American Legion, Post 298 and St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Roy was still a farmer on the old Jurek family farm in 2000. He lived at 9205 7th Street SE in Saint Cloud, Minnesota from at least 1994 until his death at St. Cloud Hospital on Dec. 9, 2008 at the age of 93. |
