when he came to Benton county, Minnesota, and took the farm on which he now lives. When Mr. Latterell came, the farm was new and wild, but by good management, there has been a great
improvement. Miss P. Nolette became his wife on the 23d of September, 1860. They have ten children living, and one is deceased." [Source: History of the Upper Missippi Valley, St. George Township (1881) p. 366] At the time of the May 28, 1885 Minnesota state census, Philoméne was 42 years old and living with her husband Louis and their ten children in St. George Township, Benton, Minnesota At the time of the April 20, 1910 federal census, Philoméne was 67 years old and living with her husband Louis and their children Lizzie, Josephine and Louis W. (all of whom were single), and grandchildren Dolly H. (age 6) and Emil M. (age 1-1/12 years) in St. George Twp., Benton, Minnesota. Louis was working as a farmer in general farming, assisted by his son Louis W. Philoméne stated she was born in French Canada of French Canadian parents, and she could read and write English. She emigrated to the United States in 1848. Louis and Philoméne had been married for 49 years, and she was the mother of 15 children, 13 of whom were still living. |
