Emil Jorgenson (?), male aged 20, in Willmar, Kandiyohi, Minnesota [1885 Minnesota State Census, Willmar, Kandiyohi, MN, Roll MNSC_31, Line 37] On June 5, 1899, Laura departed from Willmar for a European trip with her father and sister Amy. On June 9, 1900 at the time of the U.S. Federal Census, Laura was 19 years old and living with her father and younger sister Amy in Willmar, Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Their father was working as a landlord and had been married for 28 years. Both Laura and Amy were attending school. The Jorgenson family were accomplished musicians. Jenny was renowned for her artistry as a pianist, Laura played the violin and Carl played the banjo. While on a visit to the Willmar home of Laura Jorgenson Braithwaite's grandson, Doug Braithwaite, Rae Bordua saw both Laura's beautiful handmade violin with burgundy velvet-lined case and two horsehair bows, along with Carl's banjo which has the inside skin of the head autographed in pencil with the signatures of scores of his contemporaries. At the time of the June 22, 1905 Minnesota State Census, Laura was 24 years old and living with her father Martin, brother Charley and sister Amy on Bieber Avenue in Willmar Ward 2, Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Her father was working as a harness maker. At the time of the Apr. 20, 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Laura was 29 years old and living with her 70-year-old widowed father and younger sister Amy at 402 Sixth Street in Willmar Ward 2, Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Her father had his own income. Laura and her sister Amy had a similar love interest. Amy met Albert "Junior" Braithwaite first and she was very angry for awhile about him eventually deciding that he liked her sister Laura better. At the time of the Jan. 5, 1920 U.S. Federal Census, Laura was 39 years old and living with her husband Albert E. and their 1-7/12 year old daughter, Lauretta M., at 2204 Sixth Avenue South, Minneapolis Ward 8, Hennepin, Minnesota. Albert was working as a travelling salesman. At the time of the Apr. 15, 1930 U.S. Federal Census, Laura was 49 years old and living with her husband Albert E. and their two childen, born in Wisconsin, at 402 Sixth Street West, Willmar, Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Her husband Albert E. was working as a travelling salesman in creamery products. He owned his own house free and clear worth $5,000 and the family had a radio. Laura passed away on February 11, 1964 at the age of 82, and was buried in her brother-in-law Gauthe Qvale's family plot with her sisters Jennie and Amy at Fairview Cemetery, Willmar, Kandiyohi, Minnesota. |
