Jackie talks about her and her niece Hannah's trip to Ireland in 2014: "Hannah and I were able to spend three wonderful weeks in Ireland, and were super fortunate that the weather cooperated. Several people said we brought the sunshine with us. We started out in Shannon and headed north with a list of sites and places we wanted to visit, most of which were along the western, northern and eastern coastlines. Our first major stop was Galway, a large city with lots going on. We visited the Cliffs of Moher, Giant's Causeway, Derry, Belfast, Dublin, Killarney, Dingle and Limerick. In both Galway and Dublin we were treated to live music and dance by street performers. We spent one night in a (supposedly) haunted castle that had been built in the 16th century. Hannah and I agreed that the Dingle Peninsula was the most beautiful area we visited, and we stayed in a very large and comfortable hostel there. We were also able to take in a live concert with traditional Irish music. The young man playing the button accordion was a seven time world champion on that instrument. Of course, we hit the pubs, even though neither of us are drinkers, and toured the Guinness Brewery in Dublin, where we were taught to pour the perfect glass of Guinness. It was an awesome adventure, and one that we'll never forget. On our last night, we participated in a mediaeval feast, complete with costumes, singing and general revelry. Three weeks was the perfect amount of time, but still we couldn't take in everything there is to see and do. Hannah is off to college this fall, and I'm back at home in Mexico." |
