In the April 12, 1930 U.S. census, Max was 12 years old and living with parents and two siblings on a rented farm in Clear Lake township. The family did not own a radio. Max and his sister Hattie M. were attending school [Source: 1930 Census, Clear Lake, Sherburne, MN, Roll T626-1129, p. 4A, E.D. 8]. Max grew up and attended school in Clear Lake. He married Dora Fischer on July 1, 1941 in Minneapolis. They made their home in Elk River and Max farmed and worked at the Princeton Coop Creamery, the Elk River Feed Mill and also did carpentry work on the side. When they moved to Milaca in 1971, he worked at Smith Systems in Princeton. Max enjoyed fishing, farming, gardening and his pets. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Max died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 at the Foley Nursing Center in Benton County, Minnesota. He was 86 years old. |
