Notes: At the time of the Sept. 4, 1850 U.S. Federal census, Jane was 15 years old and living with her father George, step-
  mother Almira, six siblings ranging in age from 13 years to 1 year old, her 78-year-old paternal grandfather, Elias Spencer, and 16-year-old James White in Dist. 56 of Livonia, Livingston, New York. Her father was working as a merchant and owned real estate valued at $2,000. The entire household had been born in the State of New York.
 
At the time of the Sept. 11, 1860 U.S. Federal census, Jane L. was 25 years old and living in Township 2 N Range 6 W, St. Clair, Illinois with her 28-year-old husband, John W. Francis, and their three daughters ranging in age from 4 years to 3 months old. Her husband was working as a teacher. Although both John and Jane were born in New York, daughter Ida E. was born in Iowa, Nettie H. was born in New York, and Lovis F. was born in Illinois.
 
In 1866 three weeks after giving birth to son George, Jane's baby sister Annette Spencer Hunt died at the tender age of 21, leaving behind two young children and a bereft husband. Her widower brother-in-law, Nathaniel King Hunt, married Jane a little over a year later on May 12, 1867 in Antwerp, Van Buren, Michigan. It was the second marriage for both.
 
At the time of the July 27, 1870 U.S. Federal census, Jane L. was 35 years old and living with her 33-year-old husband Nath, niece Lena A. (age 6), nephew George S. (age 4), daughter Nettie Francis (age 13), son Charles Francis (age 8), and 19-year-old Asahel Lull, a farm laborer born in Michigan. Nath was a farmer with real estate worth $6,000.

In 1879 Nathaniel and his family moved to Minnesota and opened up a farm in Haven, Sherburne County. He represented the district for two terms in the State Legislature.

At the time of the 1880 federal census, Jane L. was 45 years old and living with her husband Nathaniel K. (age 43), step-daughter Lena (single and age 16), and son Charles Francis (age 18) in Texas, Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was working as a farmer at the time [Source: NA Film No. T9-0586, p. 348B].
 
At the time of the May 29, 1885 Minnesota state census, Jane L. was 49 years old and living in Dist. 5, of Haven, Sherburne, Minnesota with her husband Nathaniel K. (age 48), son Charles Francis (age 23), nephew Spencer Hunt (age 19), Adam Hildt (age 62, born in Germany), and Andrew Peterson (age 23, born in Sweden).
 
Jane died in Saint Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota on June 15, 1894 at the age of 59. Two days later her widowed husband Nathaniel married Rosetta "Rose" Mix. He was 57 and she was 39 years old.
