Duelm, Benton Co. MN, 8 Sept. 1896
Dear Wilhelm! Your letter of August 23, as well as the nice
souvenir from Kevelar, I received on the 5th (Sept.?) and thank you for it from the bottom of my heart.
I wrote a small piece today to mail to the jubilee. The following is an almost verbatim copy. This
is the first essay and copying it, I only translated very little, but thought to send this as well.
I am thinking of sending this essay in two days, so that it will arrive just before or on the day of
the jubilee itself. The price of beer here is about 0,25 DM (¼ Mark) per liter, by the
barrel, but I would get it for 25% less. The taste is similar to Bavarian beer, but in no way close
to the Muenster Altbeer. But in order to really tell the difference, you just have to come and taste
it yourself.
I learned from the ANZEIGER that teacher Blomenhaus died and have sent a letter of
condolences to the widow. So far, I have had no reply.
As I can see, you are pretty busy with weddings, and I am sending my
greetings and very best wishes for the newlyweds. The harvest here is relatively light and can barely
be called a middle-harvest. Our pastor, Sigismund Suszcynski, left here last Saturday. At this
point we have no idea when we will be getting a new one.
I now wish you a great time at the jubilee. Please
let me know if you hear anything about my letter to the pastor.
