'Funeral Rites For Rev. Francis Welp Thursday, 10 A.M.'

"Funeral services of Rev. Francis Welp, chaplain at St. Otto's Home, will be held Thursday at 10 a. m. in the Sacred Heart chapel of St. Francis convent, where he observed his golden jubilee May 13, 1943. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.
"Born in Chicago May 16, 1858, he prepared for the priesthood at St. Vincent's Archabby, Latrobe, Pa., Atchison, Kan. and St. John's Abbey, Collegeville. He was ordained by the Most Rev. Otto Zardetti, S.T.D., first bishop of St. Cloud, May 13, 1893, and served St. Patrick's in Benton County as his first appointment.
"Parishes served during his long years in the priesthood include, St. Thomas', McCauleyville; St. Gail's, Tintah; St. Mary's, Rice; St. Anthony's, Raymond; Our Lady of Victory, Elisabeth; St. Patrick's, Melrose. He also served missions at Brandon and Sedan and for a time was chaplain for the Franciscan Sisters in Little Falls. Rev. Welp came to St. Otto's Home from Greenwold in 1935.
"At St. Otto's, Rev. Welp organized an active chapter of the Third Order of St. Francis and regularly conducted its meetings as well as ministering to the spiritual needs of the residents.
"Surviving are two sisters, Sister M. Alphonsine, College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, and Sister M. Euphonia, St. Scholastics, Atchinson, Kan. and two brothers, one in Oregon and another in Washington."
