At the time of the Apr. 24, 1930 U.S. federal census, Alma was 12 years old and living with her parents and four siblings in Glendorado Township, Benton, Minnesota. Her father was working as a dairy farmer. The family did not have a radio. Alma was 28 years old when she married Edmund Martin Herbst at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Duelm, Benton, Minnesota on Aug. 27, 1946. Edmund and Alma were living on RR 1 in Foley, Benton, Minnesota in 1986. She was 68 years old at the time. She and Edmund lived and farmed in the Duelm area all their lives. Alma was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and had been the parish bookkeeper for 20 years. She was also a member of the Bible Study Fellowship in St. Cloud. Her great joy was spending time with her family and serving everybody delicious home cooking. She also enjoyed drinking coffee, gardening, bowling, playing 500 and traveling, especially to Grand Marais. Alma died Oct. 14, 2011 in Foley, Benton, Minnesota. She was 93 years old. |
