Dear Rae:
Heard from your mother that the kids at school were making fun
of you. Don't let it bother you, dear. I know it's hard to take but children are cruel & when they know
that you can be hurt they love to pick on you. These years will pass soon enough, you'll be slender & very
pretty. Just smile & let them do their worst.
I had the same trouble & so did your mother.
When I was sixteen I was slender & tall. Also very popular with the boys.
Think tall & slender & have some self
confidence. Don't let them get you down. Also keep up with your studies. That's the one mistake I made that your mother
didn't. You can't take an education away.
The kids at school use to kid me unmercifully, seems I
couldn't go down the hall without falling flat on my face & there were only three boys in a class of hundreds that were taller so you can see what a mess I was. Also
the other girls all wore silk to school & I had cotton dresses.
Some day you'll be amused at all this. Keep this letter & read it over
when you feel blue. You're going to be a very pretty girl when you lose that adolescent fat. Just smile more
darling & keep up your spirits.
Love from
