1889 COUNTY AGRICULTURE: "N.
K. Hunt placed an ad in 'The Sherbourne County Star' which read:
'Bancrofter will stand for the season of 1889 on the farm of his owner,
N. K. Hunt, Haven, Minnesota,
five miles northwest of Clear Lake and seven miles southeast of St. Cloud.
Bancrofter is a purebred Percheron stallion, foaled April 10, 1886, bred in
France by M. Gonlard. Imported in 1887 by Leonard. Johnson, his sire is
Mayor 626 and his dam, Lisette 4263. The Percheron is recognized as the
best breed in the world for a general purchase horse. Terms reasonable --
address the owner.'"1892 COUNTY AGRICULTURE:
"N. K. Hunt, a prominent
farmer in Haven, listed to sell his stock and farm implements at auction."1899 COUNTY PEOPLE:
"A granary and its contents belonging to
N. K. Hunt burned in Clear
Lake."1900 COUNTY BUSINESS:
"N. K. Hunt pressed several
car loads of rye straw for use at the State Fair."1916 COUNTY PEOPLE: "Sherbourne County was given
notice that a portion of a proposed new highway stretching from New Orleans
to Winnipeg would pass through the county. The was to be named 'The
Jefferson Highway.' Sherburne County persons sent to the negotiations
include John Dingman of Clear Lake, Spencer
Hunt of Haven, Younger Dyson of Becker, and A. L. Davis of Elk River."1924 PIONEER OBITUARIES:
"Nathaniel K. Hunt, a former
resident of Haven, died in his home at St. Cloud. He was 87 when he died.
In 1879 he moved to Minnesota and opened up a farm in Haven, which was then
occupied by his son in 1924. He represented the district for two terms in
the State Legislature."1926 PIONEER OBITUARIES:
"Mrs. Spencer Hunt died.
She was from Haven."1930 COUNTY BUSINESS: "The Haven Rural Telephone
Company had its annual meeting, electing the following officers: Oscar
Scherfenberger, president; Lee
Hunt, vice president; Guy Ayers, Secretary; Louis Valley, Jake Hartman
and Henry Killian Jr., Directors."1935 PIONEER OBITUARIES:
"George Spencer Hunt died
June 30. He was born in 1866 and lived in Haven. He was a farmer and
breeder of cattle and horses. He had been a county commissioner and
president of the county fair."1950 COUNTY PEOPLE: "The new rural mail carrier
on Routes 1 and 3 of Elk River was Harold Enger from Orrock.
Freed Hunt of Big Lake
retired after carrying mail for over 30 years. At his retirement party he
was presented with a platform rocker, a hassock, and a sum of money for his
many years of excellent service." |
