Best Pizza
Panhandle Pizza 2077 Hayes (between Clayton and Cole) 750-0400 With all the whining from
migratory Chicagoans and New Yorkers, you can almost be fooled into thinking
that S.F. doesn't have any palatable pizza. Thankfully, Panhandle Pizza
offers cuisine that chauvinistic Easterners can, well, shove down their
throats. The pie is built on a cornmeal crust generously layered with --
what else? -- California cheese. What further separates this pizza from the
ordinary pie are toppings such as corn, pine nuts, marinated chicken, and
andouille sausage that are enough to make any Californian smile. It's not
your New York thin crust or your Chicago deep dish, it's Californian -- and
that's, after all, why we live here.
