Kapuaiwa is one of the last surviving royal coconut groves. Planted in the mid-1800's
for Lot Kamehameha (Kamehameha V), it was given his nickname, "Kapuaiwa."
The size and majesty of the grove represent the economic and aesthetic importance
of the plant brought to Hawai'i by the first Polynesian immigrants.
