| Surrounded by his loving and devoted family and friends. Gary's 23 yr old battle fighting HIV/AIDS came to an end two weeks after his 49th birthday. A gifted and talented artist and photographer, Gary leaves a legacy of stained glass along with an inspiring portfolio.
Gary is survived by his mother, Shirley Shumate; father, Al Okonek; siblings, Margo Berg (Richard), Joseph Okonek (Carolyn), Kelly Pearson (Jeodaun), Lisa Blomster (Mark), Terry Okonek (Angela); and 20 beloved nieces and nephews. Memorial Service took place at 10 AM Saturday, August 9th at LAKEWOOD CEMETERY CHAPEL. |
