Ambrose was working as a bookkeeper for Liberty Granite Company. At the time of the Apr. 8, 1940 U.S. federal census, Clara was 27 years old and living with her 37-year-old husband Ambrose and their 3 children -- Lawrence (9 years old), Ronald (8 years old), and Marlene (6 years old) -- in St. Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota.
